Panasonic Model RF-1600 6-Band Electronic Portable Radio AM FM VHF AIR MB SW

Up for auction is a very nice example of a Japan made Panasonic RF-1600. The radio speaker sounds very nice and the antennae extends and retracts perfectly. Volume control and bass and Treble work as intended. The power button works as intended. The dial rotates as intended and the rotating switch for the bands works. It has and AFC on and off switch and a squelch dial. It has a phone plug in and an MPX out. It has a switch on the back for phono and radio. It has two holes on the back and one of them says "ant" and the other says "earth". The knobs all move and the light on the dial stays on permanently. The light switch on the top that controls the dial does not turn off the light. It stays on at all time. I am not certain if it is supposed to or not. The unit DOES NOT work with 4 D cell batteries installed. It does seem to work just fine with AC power. The AC power cord is in perfect shape. The battery storage compartment showed some signs of prior decayed batteries but not so bad that I thought it would not be serviceable so I tried some new batteries but I could not get the batteries to power up the unit so that might take some work. The storage compartment for the headphones and the power cord are intact and work properly. I have a picture above of the door that holds the power cord and I have a picture showing the unit with the power cord stored.  I do not have any headphones for it (so none are included) so I could not test the headphone jack function.
